I’ve soldered my kit together, but the parts I soldered don’t work.

We rigorously test every board that is sent out. Absolutely nothing that we ship is untested, so if we ship it, it has passed our testing standards, which are quite high as we use our products ourselves and want others to experience our products the way that we experience them.

The most common issue that we see is improper connections, which can be caused by a number of defects during the soldering process. We always recommend this video to our supporters:

It correctly shows how to avoid common issues like cold joints, excessive or not enough solder, and how and when to use flux. We watch it regularly to refresh our own skills, so it’s a great watch even if you’re already an expert.

In these sorts of situations, we always recommend revisiting the soldering job, and we recommend that all solder joints be redone with additional flux. It can be surprising how simple soldering defects can hide behind joints that look perfectly acceptable.

I tried all of that, but it’s still not working. What do I do? #

If you are unable to fix the problem, we have a few alternatives available to you.

We offer replacement printed circuit boards on our store, with the option of us performing the soldering work for you. This should provide you with what you need to get going.

Alternatively, if the board is otherwise functional and just the Pixart PMW-3360 sensor is non-functioning, we offer replacement sensors on our store that you can use after you’ve successfully desoldered the original chip.

Here is a great video about desoldering, which will be useful if you try to desolder the Pixart PMW-3360.

Is a replacement PCB or PMW-3360 sensor covered under my warranty? #

Unfortunately, no. If your device is non-functioning as a result of inadequate assembly, we cannot provide warranty service to you. For more information, please see our warranty, as well as this primer on our warranty and testing processes.
